How an unexpected email sent me to examine again what I was thinking the last time I saw Carita
Writing a memoir forces you to return to the past with the perspective of everything that has passed between now and then, with a forgiving eye (and a fair amount of cringing). I have said before that the chapter of How to Avoid a Happy Life which deals with my relationship with Carita was the hardest to write (not that any of it was a picnic). Sensibly, I left it until last, knowing what it would require of me.
